Instagram crop checker
See what Instagram will cut before you post. Add a photo and check it on the grid, in the feed and as a carousel slide.

What the three views mean
- On your grid: your profile shows every post as a 3:4 tile, so wider photos lose their sides.
- In the feed: a photo keeps its own shape between 1.91:1 wide and 3:4 tall. Outside that, Instagram crops it.
- After a first slide: every carousel slide takes the shape of the first one.
These are Instagram's shapes as of October 2026. See the full Instagram post sizes table.
Questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The checker runs in your browser, so your photo stays on your device.
Why does the grid crop more than the feed?
The feed keeps a photo's own shape between 1.91:1 wide and 3:4 tall. The profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 tile, so anything wider or squarer loses its sides there.
Can I choose what shows on my grid?
Yes. On a post, Instagram's three-dot menu has Adjust preview, which lets you move the photo inside the grid tile. The menu can vary by app version. The frame in this checker shows the same choice before you post.
Why does the carousel view crop my photo?
Every slide in a carousel takes the shape of the first slide. Pick the first slide's shape above to see how this photo would land after it.
How do I check my whole grid?
The checker looks at one photo. Swatch shows your whole grid and every carousel slide on iPhone before you post, and Preview is free.
